ANTHEM PERIO, LAS VEGAS' CHOICE FOR ADVANCED PERIODONTICS

Laser gum treatment is a precise, tissue-preserving option that may be used for several periodontal procedures. These procedures include biopsies, frenectomies, crown lengthening, controlling localized bleeding, removing excess tissue, and treating gum disease. Depending on the procedure, laser technology may help minimize trauma to surrounding tissue and support a more comfortable recovery.

Benefits of Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment

Patients who have laser gum surgery and treatment performed to correct gum disease will benefit by avoiding experiencing symptoms that can occur when gum disease is left untreated, such as increased risk of tooth loss, jawbone deterioration, halitosis, and more.

Additional benefits of laser gum surgery and treatment include:

  • Comfortable: Unlike traditional methods for treating gum disease, laser gum surgery does not require the use of drills or scalpels, resulting in a more comfortable procedure. This also reduces or eliminates the need for taking medication for pain relief following the procedure.
  • Faster healing time: Due to its minimally invasive nature, laser gum surgery and treatment practically eliminates the time required to heal following the procedure, meaning you can quickly return to your normal activities and begin enjoying healthier gums and teeth right away.
  • Targeted intervention: The precision of the laser allows your periodontist to avoid harming any healthy parts of the teeth during the procedure.
  • Significantly reduces inflammation: Laser gum surgery and treatment can remove 90% of inflammation in one treatment.
  • Reduces bleeding and swelling following treatment: Two of the most common symptoms of gum disease are swelling and bleeding. By killing the bacteria causing gum disease, these symptoms will either significantly improve or be corrected.

The Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment Procedure

An initial consultation and general examination will be necessary to determine if laser gum surgery and treatment is right for you. During this visit, we will review your health history, discuss your oral health concerns and goals, and examine your teeth, gums, and cheeks to determine your overall health and identify any underlying issues. Following this examination, we will explain available treatment options and answer any questions you have.

If it is determined that laser gum surgery and treatment is necessary, the procedure will begin with administration of a local anesthetic and/or sedation if necessary, after which we will examine your pocket depths and gums. Next, we will perform a deep cleaning and use a laser to kill bacteria and infected tissue. In addition to removing bacteria and infected tissue, this laser will also heat the blood, which will naturally create a seal that will protect the pocket from germs and plaque.

Following this, we will evaluate the surgical results and make any necessary adjustments, after which the procedure will be complete.

Aftercare Following Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment

Following laser gum surgery and treatment, it will not be necessary to follow aftercare instructions, though taking consistent good care of your oral health will reduce the likelihood of needing similar treatments in the future, especially if this procedure was performed because of improper or insufficient self-care. Make it a habit to brush your teeth twice daily (at a minimum) for at least two minutes each time. Also, remember to brush your tongue and cheeks, as well as behind the lower and upper front teeth.

Flossing at least once a day and being mindful of the type of foods and beverages you consume are also important steps to maintaining good oral health and preventing periodontal disease from developing. Finally, continuing to schedule regular checkups every six months (or more if necessary) is the most important step you can take to maintain your oral health and identify and correct issues before they develop into something more significant. By following these best practices, you will continue to enjoy good oral health!
