ANTHEM PERIO, LAS VEGAS' CHOICE FOR ADVANCED PERIODONTICS

Patients who are missing most or all their teeth typically need to decide between having dentures or full mouth dental implants. There are benefits and drawbacks to both. Dentures are considerably cheaper and provide immediate support, however they can also be uncomfortable and limit the types of foods patients can eat. Patients often decide to have full mouth dental implants placed because doing so is the most effective methods for returning patients to their normal daily activities. Full mouth dental implants also provide stronger structural integrity, improved aesthetic appearance, and a decreased risk of developing additional oral health issues associated with long term tooth loss, such as drifting or shifting teeth, jaw joint issues, and/or jawbone deterioration. There are several different types of dental implants that can be used in a full mouth dental implant procedure, but all involve the placement of artificial titanium tooth roots that are strategically placed in your jawbone. Over time, these titanium posts will fuse with your natural bone, after which a crown can be placed to the now adhered post.

The Full Mouth Dental Implant Procedure

An initial consultation and general examination will be necessary to determine if full mouth dental implants are the right treatment option for you. During this visit, we will review your health history, discuss your oral health concerns and goals, and examine your teeth, gums, and cheeks to determine your overall health and identify any underlying issues. Following this examination, we will explain available treatment options and answer any questions you have.

If it is determined that full mouth dental implants are right for you, your follow-up appointment will begin with administration of a local anesthetic and/or sedation. Next, titanium posts will be placed in your jawbone, after which the area will be stitched shut and allowed time to heal and for the posts to integrate with the jawbone. While waiting for this fusion to take place, you will be provided with temporary dentures. Once the posts have fully integrated, the dentures will be placed and your bite will be tested to ensure the fit is correct. Once this is determined, the procedure will be complete and you can begin to enjoy your restored, healthy smile!

Aftercare Following Full Mouth Dental Implants

Once the full mouth dental implants procedure is complete, we will provide post-operative instructions to ensure that you minimize your risk of developing complications and enjoy a fast a recovery time. One of the most important aftercare instructions to follow is to keep your mouth clean and avoid brushing the surgical site until the area becomes less sensitive. It is also important to stick to a soft food diet and avoid foods that are extremely cold or extremely hot. It is common to experience sensitivity and swelling following the procedure, but this can typically be managed using ice packs and over the counter pain relieving medication. If you are prescribed pain relieving medication and/or antibiotics, it is essential to follow the recommended dose until the prescription runs out.

Once you have fully recovered, you can return to your normal diet and self-care practices, however, taking consistent good care of your oral health will reduce the likelihood of needing similar treatments in the future, especially if this procedure was performed because of improper or insufficient self-care. Make it a habit to brush your teeth twice daily (at a minimum) for at least two minutes each time. Also, remember to brush your tongue and cheeks, as well as behind the lower and upper front teeth.

Flossing at least once a day and being mindful of the type of foods and beverages you consume are also important steps to maintaining good oral health and preserving the integrity of your implants. Finally, continuing to schedule regular checkups every six months (or more if necessary) is the most important step you can take to maintain your oral health and identify and correct issues before they develop into something more significant. By following these best practices, you will maximize the longevity of your full mouth dental implants and continue to enjoy good oral health!
