Gum Depigmentation & Bleaching IN LAS VEGAS & HENDERSON, NV
ANTHEM PERIO, LAS VEGAS' CHOICE FOR ADVANCED PERIODONTICS
Many patients feel self-conscious about the appearance of their smile. This dissatisfaction can be caused by a variety of factors, such as crooked or missing teeth, imbalanced ratio of gums to teeth (gummy smile), or dissatisfaction with the shade of their gums. Laser gum depigmentation and bleaching is a safe and effective procedure commonly performed for patients who are unsatisfied with the appearance of their gums being dark or splotchy. Caused by hyperpigmentation, dark or splotchy gums are generally the result of genetic predisposition and do not typically indicate underlying health issues, although poor dental hygiene, systemic diseases, certain medications, and smoking can all play a contributing factor in gum hyperpigmentation. Patients who are unsatisfied with the appearance of their gums should consider scheduling an appointment for laser gum depigmentation and bleaching, an innovative treatment that uses an advanced laser device to correct darkened areas of gums in just one visit.

The Laser Gum Depigmentation & Bleaching Procedure
An initial consultation and general examination will be necessary to determine if laser gum depigmentation and bleaching is the right treatment option for you. During this visit, we will review your health history, discuss your oral health concerns and goals, and examine your teeth, gums, and cheeks to determine your overall health and identify any underlying issues. If your gums require laser gum depigmentation and bleaching due to the development of gum disease, this will need to be treated first.
Once this examination is complete, we will explain available treatment options and answer any questions you have. If it is determined that you are a good candidate for laser gum depigmentation and bleaching, your follow-up appointment will begin with administration of a local anesthetic and/or sedation. Next, we will target areas containing excessive melanin, releasing bursts of light with a laser. As a result of these blasts of light, the gums will begin the regeneration process, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing pink color.
Laser gum depigmentation and bleaching does not typically require sutures and can often be completed in one to two hours. Depending upon the severity of your case and personal aesthetic goals, you may achieve the desired shade of gums after only one visit, or it may be necessary to schedule several appointments until the desired shade of pink is achieved.

Aftercare Following Laser Gum Depigmentation and Bleaching
Following your laser gum depigmentation and bleaching procedure, it will not be necessary to follow any special aftercare instructions and you can resume your normal oral health care routine. Be sure to continue brushing your teeth twice daily (at a minimum) for at least two minutes each time, remembering to also brush your tongue and cheeks, as well as behind the lower and upper front teeth. It is also important to floss at least once a day and be mindful of the type of foods and beverages you consume, doing your best to limit or avoid starchy foods or foods or beverages that are sugary. Finally, continue scheduling regular checkups every six months (or more if necessary) is the most important step you can take to maintain your oral health and identify and correct issues before they develop into something more significant. By following these best practices, you will enjoy good oral health for many years to come!
