Pinhole Surgical Technique IN LAS VEGAS & HENDERSON, NV

ANTHEM PERIO, LAS VEGAS' CHOICE FOR ADVANCED PERIODONTICS

Pinhole Surgical Technique is a safe, innovative, and effective procedure commonly performed for patients who have experienced gum recession, which is most commonly caused by gum disease. Gum disease is an inflammatory condition of the gums and bone caused by bacteria attacking the tissues around your teeth. Because symptoms appear gradually, many patients are not aware they have developed gum disease, and the issue is not identified unless by a periodontist during a regular cleaning or periodontal maintenance exam. Early indications of gum disease include gums that bleed while flossing, swollen or bright red gums, halitosis, and/or gums that have begun to recede. Fortunately, gum recession can be corrected through a variety of procedures, one of which is Pinhole Surgical Technique. Unlike traditional methods of treating gum recession, which typically involve removing a piece of tissue and grafting that tissue over the recessed area (gum graft), Pinhole Surgical Technique returns gums to their appropriate length by making tiny pinholes in your gum line, then repositioning the gums to the desired position using specialized tools.

  • Strengthens and stabilizes your gums
  • Teeth sensitivity decreases
  • Reduces risk of developing gum disease
  • Decreases risk of experiencing additional gum recession
  • Improved appearance of your smile can restore self-confidence
  • No stitches or sutures and the procedure is minimally invasive
  • Can treat multiple teeth in one visit

Aftercare Following Pinhole Surgical Technique

Following Pinhole Surgical Technique, it will not be necessary to follow special after care instructions or modify your oral care routine, however, it is important to take consistent good care of your oral health to avoid needing similar treatments in the future, especially if this procedure was performed because of improper or insufficient self-care. Make it a habit to brush your teeth twice daily (at a minimum) for at least two minutes each time. Also, remember to brush your tongue and cheeks, as well as behind the lower and upper front teeth.

Flossing at least once a day and being mindful of the type of foods and beverages you consume are also important steps to maintaining good oral health and preserving the integrity of your implants. Finally, continuing to schedule regular checkups every six months (or more if necessary) is the most important step you can take to maintain your oral health and identify and correct issues before they develop into something more significant. By following these best practices, you will significantly reduce your risk of developing periodontal disease and enjoy good oral health for many years to come!

The Pinhole Surgical Technique Procedure

An initial consultation and general examination will be necessary to determine if Pinhole Surgical Technique is the right treatment option for you. During this visit, we will review your health history, discuss your oral health concerns and goals, and examine your teeth, gums, and cheeks to determine your overall health and identify any underlying issues. Following this examination, we will explain available treatment options and answer any questions you have.

The two most common treatment methods for gummy smiles are Pinhole Surgical Technique or a gum graft. Although both approaches are equally effective, many patients prefer having Pinhole Surgical Technique performed, due to it being less invasive and having a shorter recovery time.

If it is determined that Pinhole Surgical Technique is the appropriate treatment option for you, your follow-up appointment will begin with administration of a local anesthetic and/or sedation if necessary, although one of the primary benefits of Pinhole Surgical Technique is that it is a minimally invasive procedure, meaning anesthesia and/or sedation are generally not necessary. Next, tiny pinholes are made directly above your mucogingival junction through which your gums are repositioned using specialized instruments. The number of pinholes will vary depending on the severity of your case. Once we are satisfied with the positioning of the gums, collagen strips are placed to bulk the gums and keep them in place, after which the procedure will be complete.
